DRAWING on the CITY – DUBBED PHOTOGRAPHS and FILM
Aldous Eveleigh
05 Apr - 18 May 2007
This exhibition is on the theme of the city, the artist in New York and London. Artane is pleased to present three aspects of Aldous Eveleigh’s art, “Dubbed Photographs”, observed drawing and his stop-motion films. Taking New York and London as his subjects, Aldous Eveleigh first walks the city sketching whatever catches his eye. Then, with the experience of the city in mind, he works over photographs of the town transforming its architecture into representations of people and animals. In converting photos of a place into paintings about its character, he has discovered an art form that reflects both his interest in the mythology of places “ identity – and, in the way in which the viewer is able to switch visually between the city’s outer appearance (the photograph)) and representations of its inhabitants (the painting), also his interest in the psychology of perception. The exhibition will include film, which records the work being painted for the camera, canvases of New York and London, “Folded Sheets” of street drawings and artist’s books.
